NYCEDC, Women.NYC Launch Pivot to Growth, New Program to Facilitate Career and Business Pivots into Emerging Industries

NEW YORK, NY—New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) today announced the next phase of the Women.NYC initiative – Women.NYC: Pivot to GrowthPivot to Growth is a cohort bridge program designed to facilitate career and entrepreneurial pivots for women of color in early to mid-career stages to forge a career path in New York City’s emerging industries namely, technology, green economy, and life sciences. These industries have experienced tremendous growth over the past decade and are expected to grow faster than New York City’s overall economy in the coming years.

Pivot to Growth will offer phased cohort programs where participants will be introduced to high growth industries via workshops, learn to define their narrative, and create a path to pivot to new careers. The three phases include an industry context seminar, career pathways workshops, and specialized career coaching.

“Dismantling barriers to economic mobility and creating pathways for women of color to enter high growth careers with family sustaining wages is a key aspect of the Women Forward NYC action plan,” said Deputy Mayor for Housing, Economic Development and Workforce Maria Torres-Springer. “As we grow our city’s green economy, technology sector, and life sciences industry, Pivot to Growth represents an important program to help ensure equitable and inclusive access to our thriving economy, and I am eager to see all the successes of this first cohort.”
