PinPayments learns speed in the US with FD Global

Pin Payments is an online payment provider that offers quick and easy payment solutions for small businesses. By enabling business owners to accept a variety of different payment methods, Pin Payments has secured more than 10,000 customers across Australia.

Following the success locally, founder Chris Dahl has his eyes set on international markets. The company successfully launched into New Zealand and was making in-roads in the UK but Chris was also interested in exploring a US launch.

When he discovered FD Global Connection’s NYC Immersion Fintech program, Chris knew it would be a great opportunity to test the waters in the US. He had co-founded and run a software business in the US in 2008, but knew that the market had changed significantly since that time. Given the time and resources needed to complete the due diligence typically required for an international launch, the program would be a cost-effective opportunity to explore the options for Pin Payments.

The NYC Immersion program enabled Chris the chance to work closely with top mentors. It also afforded him valuable insight into the differences between the Australian and US markets, most notably the speed of business.

“In Australia, people move more cautiously, both in business execution and in the sales pipeline. In the US, customers make purchasing decisions more quickly and competitors are more responsive to making changes,” said Chris.

“The sales environment is so different to Australia, people really want to buy from you.”

Chris says the NYC Immersion program was a valuable experience for his business and it already looking ahead to future growth.

“I didn’t think it would be this amazing. I have already recommended the program to another start-up back in Melbourne,” said Chris.
